Vastu refers to the endless scientific augmentation of the surroundings and their influence on life. It describes adaptable alternate layouts for various rooms or utilities, but does not mandate them. Vastu not only consists of the placement of various rooms as per their usage, but also talks about how the furniture should be placed, what colors should be used in each room, the texture of the materials for a particular area, the direction and sizes of various doors and windows etc. These design guidelines for space, sunlight, flow and function help to accomplish prosperity and harmony. For example, a petite use of red color in the living room can make the whole space become lively beaming with fresh energy. Therefore, use of suitable colors in the right direction enhance the health and growth of the inhabitants. The wrong colors might create stress and conflict in the minds of the inmates.
Despite its vastness, at core level it can be penned down simply as the science of creating balance between the five elements of nature (i.e. earth, water, fire, air and space) intending to integrate the built masses with the surroundings in such a way that the inhabitants are connected to their environment benefiting from it.
