Ar. Raj Rewal, the Master Architect and Ferrante Ferranti, a celebrated French Photographer at LSAD with Chief Architect Ar. Atul Singla (Principal Architect, Idearch)
Be it the perfection in line or the immaculate detailing of the structure, Ar. Raj Rewal, the Master Architect of Independent India laid out a path for Architects in India, a path that doesn’t give away to Western knowledge & “Catalogue Display” of materials; but underlines the importance of character that the building for a place should reflect. From Structural expression to Pure Poetry, “RASA” by Rewal sir encapsulates the very essence of architecture world over. It combines the tangible & intangible elements and makes you feel one with the environment. A chance to meet Ferrante Ferranti, a celebrated French photographer heightens the belief in “RASA”. When one designs to EXPERIENCE the flavor of the environment in all its glory; Light & Space, structure, materials, detail & context; one doesn’t merely design a building but one pens down poetry. The works of the master architect redefine the cliché “ethical design” and reinvents it. Choosing individuality to replication he gives us a new postmodern ideal; a fundamental of design that we as designers sometimes ignore.
The profession of architecture & the responsibility towards ethical design can only be realized if one sensitizes oneself to the gamut of contexts: Environment, Needs, Site, Materials.
I conclude this writing by saying that I as a student, teacher or architect felt the presence of knowledge so strong that it makes you forget all other dimensions. I think that is the beauty of it.
